Is Contacting An Employer Over the Phone Insulting?

As I was driving into work this morning, I was listening to one of my favorite local radio stations and heard them announce a new statistic claiming that making phone calls will soon be phased out for good. Instead of  “believing everything you hear,” I decided to look into a few more articles regarding the concept of a pure texting market. Sure, the availability of smartphones and tablets is ever-expanding, but does no one want to hear the sound of another person’s voice anymore?

Apparently, the idea of contacting other employers or business partners has become purely email and texting-based. If you want to make a call from work, you’re supposed to text the individual ahead of time to make sure they are available. Without the preferred forewarning of verbal communication, our society assumes the phone call only consists of a drop in market or death. Talk about dramatic.

This isn’t some rant about millennials or the fact that smartphones are going to take over the world. It is, however, concerning that the connection to a device, which was created to prompt more contact, has driven people to become absolutely fearful, and even irritated, by the idea of verbal communication.
